This exceedingly fine and rare 19th century folk retablo from Mexico represents 'El Transito de Maria', also known as The Dormition of Mary. El Tránsito de María refers to the death and bodily assumption of the Virgin Mary into heaven, an event that is also celebrated as the Feast of the Assumption.
