A New Chapter

After more than 30 years of buying and selling art and antiques, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I am closing the retail portion of my business so that I can dedicate myself fully to making art. This transition marks the beginning of a long held dream, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. As part of the process, I will be liquidating my inventory over the coming months.

To thank everyone who has supported me throughout the years, please use the discount code DIVERS at checkout to receive an automatic 40% discount on all available inventory. Happy to entertain offers as well. Thank you for your patronage, friendship, and encouragement.

La Divina Providencia

SKU: 1851

This rare 19th century Mexican folk retablo represents La Divina Providencia (The Divine Providence).

La Divina Providencia or 'Divine Providence' is the belief that a supreme being, such as God, actively guides and governs the universe and all of its events, including human affairs, in accordance with a divine will. This concept suggests that all things, both good and bad, are part of a larger plan and are ultimately directed towards a divine purpose, even if that purpose is not always understood. It is a core concept in many religions and implies that a higher power is not a distant creator but is intimately involved in the world

Signed on verso by one of Mexico's most revered retablo painters, Agustin Barajas, better known as the 'Skimpy Painter'.

Dimensions: 14 inches vertical x 10 inches horizontal.
