A New Chapter

After more than 30 years of buying and selling art and antiques, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I am closing the retail portion of my business so that I can dedicate myself fully to making art. This 19th century Mexicn folk retablo represents Nuestra Senora de Carmen. Our Lady of Carmen refers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a title for the Virgin Mary associated with the Carmelite Order and the holy site of Mount Carmel in Israel. Devotion to her includes the wearing of a scapular, a religious garment symbolizing her protection, and celebrates her feast day on July 16th. She is also known as the patron saint of sailors and is invoked for protection against evil and for help in difficult times.
