San Nicolas Tolentino Retablo
SKU: 1658
This 19th century Mexican folk retablo represents San Nicolas Tolentino, patron saint of sick animals, babies, mariners and souls in purgatory. According to popular legend, San Nicolas was instructed to eat more meat after falling ill one day so he served himself a partridge. After making the sign of the cross, the bird came to life and flew away. He is almost always shown with a white partridge, his most identifiable attribute.
