Inventory Liquidation Sale Continues...

After more than 30 years of buying and selling art and antiques, I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I am closing the retail portion of my business so that I can dedicate myself fully to making art. This transition marks the beginning of a long held dream, and I’m excited for what lies ahead.

The sale discount has been increased to 50 percent. Please use the discount code DIVERS at checkout to receive an automatic 50% discount on all available inventory. I will consider reasonable offers on some items as well. Thank you for your patronage, friendship, and encouragement.I have

Santa Librata - Dyslexic Painter

SKU: 1528

This rare 19th century Mexican retablo represents Santa Librata. Santa Librata is invoked by married women seeking liberation from difficult husbands and those suffering at the hour of death. According to legend, her father (King of Lusitania) had arranged her marriage with the King of Sicily. To prevent the unwanted marriage, Santa Librata prayed to be liberated and took a private vow of celibacy. The following day she sprouted a beard, her suitor departed and her father had her crucified. Santa Librata is always depicted as she is here, as a crucified martyr with a large and colorful flower garland.

This retablo is attributed to the 'Bulbous Head Painter', also known as the 'Dyslexic Painter'. His unique style is unmistakable.

Dimensions: 14 inches x 10 inches.
