Guardian Angel retablo

This 19th century Mexican folk retablo represents the guardian angel rescuing a child from the forces of evil represented in the form of a serpent. Attributed to Concepcion Avila, the 'Bee Sting Lip' painter, one of Mexico's most revered retablo painters.

Oil on heavy gauge tin. Circa 1880.
